Marine Data Hub

About

Complete voyage communications and data collaboration. Strengthening the weakest link in the value chain.

Marine Data hub is a collaborative venture headed by UK based marine assurance specialist, MIS Marine.

Working in partnership with industry leaders and global energy companies, the project set out to explore the limitations currently faced by the industry resulting from dated communication channels and a sector-wide reluctance to share information and embrace technological advances.

Having identified key opportunities for improvements, MIS Marine created the Marine Data Hub.

Open to all industry participants, the Marine Data Hub (Hub), now provides a comprehensive and free to use data sharing and collaboration platform. Seeking to unify the maritime industry, Hub aims to simplify the process of voyage planning and data sharing across the different organisations involved.

A business case for change

The current scene

Having led the way as the central player in global transport and logistics for centuries, shipping now finds itself behind the times. Despite the sheer size of the industry, the thousands of stakeholders invested across the supply-chain and the worldwide corporations that sit at the head of sector, shipping still finds itself lacking in any form of central communications platform or agreed common language (terminology, units of measurement, etc.).

This failure to adapt to and to adopt the tools now available to facilitate global stakeholder communications and data sharing is resulting in an inefficient and fee laden industry.

The challenge

Multiple and disconnected communication channels between charterers, vessels, terminals and associated third parties are resulting in common and costly issues.

Currently experienced widespread across the industry due to outdated ways of working and lack of communications best practice, these issues include:

  • Continuous and repetitive need to relay updates to third-parties and chase information, ultimately leading to delays and communication loss.
  • ETA and ATA mismatch resulting in costly demurrage fees.
  • Delays creating delays due to berth outages.
  • Refinery throughput impacted by uncommunicated delays.
  • Increased downtime due to regulatory and compliancy audits and surveys.
  • Lack of real-time delay resolution due to poor visibility of operations and activity tracking.
  • Avoidable delays due to berth limitations and unvetted vessel scheduling.

The Solution

Marine Data Hub will speed up and bring a much-needed efficiency to the current vessel call process.

Linking all stakeholder across the entire supply chain, Marine Data Hub provides a common communications and data sharing platform, ensuring consistent, timely and secure voyage administration.

Through the centralised communication system, all relevant stakeholders can liaise and access shared voyage documentation, reports and photos, removing the need of numerous and repetitive communication channels and updates.
