MIS understand the importance of maintaining and protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how we use any personal information we collect about you when you use the Marine Data Hub website, Web application and mobile application.

What information do we collect about you?
We collect information about you when you register with us as a participant within Marine Data Hub. This information is limited to your username and business email address. Website usage information is collected using cookies.
Cookies
We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to collect information about how you use this site.
Google Analytics proccesses information about:
- the pages you visit on marinedatahub.org
- how long you spend on each page on marinedatahub.org
- how you got to the site
- what you click on while you’re visiting the site
We make sure you cannot be directly identified by Google Analytics data. We do this by using Google Analytics’ IP address anonymisation feature.
Microsoft Clarity processes information about:
- how well pages performed on your device
- Javascript errors your device encountered
- your interaction with site elements
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Mobile Applications
Marine Data Hub Report Editor
The Marine Data Hub Report Editor is provided by MIS to registered participants within the Marine Data Hub for the purpose of providing responses to Hub Reports. The Marine Data Hub Report Editor submits the completed Hub Report to the Marine Data Hub, in addition to the user account details of the logged-on user.
Who we share your data with
We do not share your data with anyone else however we will share your data if we are required to do so by law – for example, by court order, or to prevent fraud or other crime.
The data we collect with Google Analytics cookies is transferred and stored with Google where we analyse it with Google Analytics software (Universal Analytics). We do not allow Google to use or share this data for their own purposes.
The data we collect with Microsoft Clarity cookies is transferred and stored with Microsoft where we analyse it with Microsoft Clarity software. Microsoft do not sell Clarity data. For more information see Microsoft Privacy Statement.
We will not:
- sell or rent your data to third parties
- share your data with third parties for marketing purposes
How long we retain your data
If you submit data via our “register interest” forms, that information retained indefinitely.
Google Analytics data is held for 2 months.
Microsoft Clarity data is held for 30 days.
What rights you have over your data
If you submit data via our “register interest” forms, you can request to receive an exported file of the data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you by emailing: info@marinedatahub.org. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Information submitted via our “register interest” forms is sent to Mailchimp.
Data collected via Google Analytics is sent to Google.
Data collected via Microsoft Clarity is sent to Microsoft.
Changes to our privacy policy
We keep our privacy policy under regular review, and we will place any updates on this web page. This privacy policy was last updated on 16 October 2023.
